Lana Condor calls out double standards as she’s consistently asked to respond to co-star Israel Broussard’s controversial tweets.
If you want answers about Israel’s tweets, then ask Israel.
Lana Condor was recently interviewed by Elle magazine, and on top of talking about her breakout role in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”, and how important it is to have more Asian-American representation in romcoms. One topic she was not thrilled to discuss, however, was the recent controversy surrounding her co-star, Israel Broussard.
Israel was recently called out for some racist and offensive tweets he posted a few years ago, with one saying QUOTE, “Dogs can sense earthquakes. Too bad Japan ate them all.” The tweets, including that one, have since been deleted, and Israel posted an apology for them that read QUOTE, “I take full response for my actions and I sincerely apologize. This has been a pivotal life lesson for me.”
But Lana pointed out to Elle the unfairness of her incessantly being asked to comment on the tweets, saying QUOTE, “For me personally, I’m the one that has to answer these questions. That’s really unfair given that it should be him speaking on behalf of his actions.”
We agree with her 100%. And even though she didn’t have to, Lana did comment on the tweets, adding that they were QUOTE, “very, very, very disappointing. And hurtful. Particularly for all the obvious reasons. The things he said are totally and completely wrong and upsetting … It’s very upsetting and unfortunate. I hope that he learns from this and grows to be a better person. I couldn’t imagine him not being better.”
So hopefully now that she’s made that comment, Lana can finally stop having to field questions about Israel’s decisions, and instead focus on discussing her own.
Now I wanna hear from you guys — do you agree with Lana that she shouldn’t have to constantly comment on Israel’s controversy? Let me hear all your thoughts in the comments below.
