Nicki Minaj just dropped two new singles from her upcoming fourth album today Thursday April 12th, and Cardi dropped Invasion of Privacy last Friday, April 6th.
With those close release dates, it’s hard not to assume there was some friendly competition between the two rappers, but sources claim it’s not as bad as people have made it out to be.
One source told US Weekly QUOTE, “There isn’t any animosity between the two of them, even though some fans try to make up beef and create issues. Nicki really respects Cardi and will always root for the success of other female artists and MCs.”
And in a recent interview on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Cardi cleared the air about the rumored feud saying QUOTE, “I just really feel like it’s internet made-up. I really feel like fans and people really want to see that happen because it’s really entertaining,”
But now it’s Nicki’s turn to talk Cardi on Beats 1. She explains that MotorSport was originally just a song with her and Quavo. The other Migos were added, and then Quavo got approval from Nicki to add Cardi to the track, which Nicki apparently has the receipts for.
She said about Cardi QUOTE, “The only thing with Cardi that really, really, really hurt my feelings was the first interview she did after ‘MotorSport’ came out. With ‘MotorSport,’ I kinda felt ambushed. Quavo…wanted her to be on a record, for keeps. She begged to be on ‘MotorSport.”
The interview Nicki is referring to was from November when Cardi said QUOTE, “When I heard the track, her verse wasn’t finished. It was not the verse that’s on it right now.” I guess that was her implying that Nicki changed her verse, which Nicki didn’t like.
Nicki’s interviewed continued with her saying QUOTE, “The first thing that came out of her mouth about a Nicki Minaj feature was ‘she changed the verse’ … When it was time to clear the air about that, no one did that. All of them allowed me to look like I lied.”
At one point, Nicki even got emotional over the ordeal saying, “I really, fully supported her and up until this recent interview that she did, I have NEVER heard her show me genuine love in an interview.”
To me it sounds like miscommunication and egos getting in the way of a non issue. Now, I’m not sure of their intentions in these interviews, but Cardi didn’t seeeem to be dissing Nicki about the verse, and Nicki was expecting her to be more gracious about getting a verse on the song to begin with.
Regardless, it sucks to hear Nicki that hurt and hopefully these two can put the past behind them and be dope talented women together. But now we gotta hear from you?
